Mayor Sir Steve Bullock was elected to the London Councils’ executive in June 2010 and is executive member for housing and chair of the grants committee.

Mayor Steve Bullock was elected as the London Borough of Lewisham’s first directly elected Mayor in May 2002. Immediately prior to becoming Mayor he was serving as chair of University Hospital Lewisham NHS Trust.

Steve was first elected as a councillor in 1982 and served as leader of Lewisham council from 1988 to 1993. He is a former chair of the Association of London Authorities – a predecessor to London Councils – and the Local Government Management Board.  He is currently chair of the Local Government Association's Human Resource Panel.  

Steve was born in Redcar, North Yorkshire and now lives in Forest Hill, South London. In his spare time he enjoys football and folk music. He currently serves as a trustee of the Horniman Museum. Mayor Bullock was knighted in 2007.
